Professor Jim Peebles on discoveries

In a special interview accompanying the inauguration of the Copernican World Congress at UMK, Professor Phillip James Edwin Peebles discussed the Copernican legacy, the impact of Copernicus’ discoveries on the world of science, and the greatest challenges facing modern astronomy.

„It's fortunate that we have so many open questions”, said Professor Peebles, an eminent Canadian-American physicist, cosmologist, astrophysicist, and astronomer, and Nobel Prize laureate in physics, who was a guest at the inauguration of the Copernican World Congress co-organized by NCU on the 550th anniversary of the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus. „There’s so much to be done by the next generation of scientists. I'll name a few examples: Does life exist on other planets in the Solar System? Or on nearby planets around other stars? What is the nature of dark matter? What is the nature of dark energy? These questions are true mysteries”.
